The Helmers FIT TEAM was created to provide students, regardless of their physical fitness level, a fun way to
exercise. Students run or walk on a quarter mile track with parent volunteers and teachers running and cheering
them on at the completion of each lap. Every husky feels like part of the Helmers FIT TEAM yet they compete only
against themselves. Prizes like furry mascots and foot tokens are awarded and students wear their blue "FIT TEAM"
shirts knowing they are participating in something healthy! We have over 90 percent student participation in this
running program and huskies run/walk over 10,000 miles each year! Our FIT TEAM program was just recently awarded
the silver award by the American Cancer Society for having one of the best PTA sponsored fitness programs that
promote a healthy and active lifestyle among schools in the entire country.
